GIVEAWAY...WHY NOT?
I am in the giving mood this Christmas plus I have something good that I want to mail to someone.  Leave me a funny or favorite Christmas story/ experience/ memory/ tradition and I will pick a winner on saturday and get a surprise present to them!  I thought this would be a fun way to get a gift (possibly gifts) to some of my blogging buds.

My husband and I had not been to see the temple lights at the Mesa Temple a few years ago, so after our family Christmas party at my sister's on Christmas Eve we stopped to have a nice little romantic stroll around the beautiful temple grounds (all our kids were with their other families that year). There were some beautiful lights inside the reflection pool and I leaned really close to check them out, thinking they would be really cool to put in our swimming pool. Yes... you guessed it - I face-planted into the pool! My husband was cracking up and some nice little guide at the temple came over to me and said so nicely "Oh dear- did you get a little wet?" A LITTLE? - NO - a lot!! My husband then called all our family to tell them I was making great Christmas memories!

Last week my husband and I started a new tradition. We went and had a couples massage at a local spa. It was very romantic. When the two ladies left for us to get dressed, we thought it would be fun and exciting to have to have sex right there. Well, it took a little longer than I thought it would(stage fright). Husband was "relaxed" (now you know who I am:))
When we finally emerged from the spa room, the lady was standing about 2 inches from the door and says "your alive" with a little smirk.
It was funny and slightly embarrassing. Fun?? Yes, it was!

Talk about a change of pace from the last comment to this one, but here it goes...I remember one year coming home from school for Christmas. My car was parked across the street from the house and when I went to get in it, I noticed that my stereo was stolen. It had rained through the night, so the fingerprints had been washed away. I had worked so hard to earn it and felt so violated! My dad came home and saw how upset I was and teary and he simple said "I was wondering what to get you for Christmas." He had a new one put in for me the next day! My dad can be such a softy!

Summer, where are the homemade marshmallows from? Bonnie

Duh, I just saw Williams & Sonoma and they're "hand-made" not homemade. Sorry! Bonnie

Christmas always remind me of the "Nutcracker". What a memory and story to share.....

Years ago when I danced in the production, let's just say this particular performance was indeed memorable... I got ready to go out on stage and was feeling kind of sick, but oh well, the show must go on, when really it shouldn't have. Off I went in my ALL white leggings and red top. As I was dancing I remember thinking how I couldn't wait for it to end. Finally over! I rushed off where imediently I was approached by my dance instructor who pulled me aside. Well I will not be to graphic,(Hopefully men do not read this website, I am sure they do, oh well) I had started that lovely time of the month on stage! I looked down and about fainted, I was now in red leggings that matched my top... I could not believe they let me finish dancing, but I guess it would of been worse to pull me off stage and make a scene, but what a scene I had already made. Oh I still die thinking about it. I was absolutely mortified! I am so glad we all had our hair in slick buns so the audience could never tell who I was off stage. But all of the dancers back stage had front row, oh horrible! I was very, very humbled that day...

Great idea Summer, love this post! Merry Christmas.....

I honestly can't think of any funny Christmas memories. I must have some somewhere. (My brain isn't tuned into the fun, good times of life lately...not to be depressing). I'm a little more focused on the serious things lately by nature of what we are going through. So I thought I'd share a favorite tradition of mine.

Our big family dinner is always on Christmas Eve. My mom prepares a traditional Eastern meal with lamb and cous cous. The lamb is so symbolic of our Savior. And we always eat by candle light alone. After dinner we light the luminaries leading from the sidewalk to our front door to invite Christ into our home. I love this tradition and will continue it with my children.

these are great stories... don't think mine is that funny or profound...but what stands out the most to me in my memories of Christmas is the tradition of going to town (main street in Canandaigua Lake, NY -at my grandmas&grandpas) on Christmas Eve and was given $5 to go and find a gift for my brothers... that was at a young age until we were grown but I remember having such a great time--I always tried to find out what my brothers were getting me before finding a gift for them.
Another tradition thanks to my oldest brother is to watch all 3 of the Home Alone movies... oh and of course Muppet Christmas Carol.

Merry Christmas!!!

My all time favorite was when were were doing the annual nativity with the kids. Spencer was 3 and playing Joseph; and Jakey was 1 and playing a sheperd.

In the middle of my dad reading, Jakey decided to "steal" the baby Jesus and run off. Spencer looked at him and said, "You naughty old sheperd!"

We still laugh about that one.

funny or favorite? Hmmm...well i can tell you my least fav. about 3 years my whole family stayed at my brother's house in riverside. santa was good to them that year. my nephew got his very own Yerf Dog? Basically a mini dune buggy. we all took some rides on the new toy. my sister decided it would be a good idea for her and I to take a spin. she was driving and i was the passenger. the whole day i hadn't used a seat belt but last minute decided to buckle up on this particular trip. she was getting a little crazy as she drove through the neighborhood "throwing brody's" in the cul-de-sac. as she did, she lost control of the car. i felt us tipping. i tried to put my leg out to stop the fall. instead of stopping the fall...the heavy machine hyperextended my leg as the car rolled over it. we landed upside down with gasoline dripping on our heads. i couldn't move. after a minute of catching my breath, i was able to lower myself and roll away from the car. so painful/embarrassing. the neighbor who saw the whole thing was nice enough to drive us home. i couldn't walk normal for about a week or so. there is more to the story which down the road affected my childbirth but we'll save that for a phone conversation.
wow. long story. kind of boring. i really need to think of a fun memory! I like reading all the others!

This is more annoying than sad...but in my 22 years I have NEVER slept on Christmas Eve! Funny story though--I took some sleeping pills last year that a friend had (should have been suspicious right there). I took them on Christmas Eve and laid down to watch a movie. The sleeping pills kicked in--but not completely. So I was basically incapacitated all night. I was still too excited to fully sleep; but I was too "drunk" to do anything to pass the time! It was a nightmare, and I was a complete zombie the next day. Lesson learned--just stay up on Christmas Eve and deal with it!

A giveaway!!! YES!

My favorite family tradition is a little silly. Growing up we used to turn out all of the lights except the Christmas tree and turn on Christmas music and have a family dance/run around the Christmas tree. I love it and we now do it with our kids in the evenings leading up to Christmas.

I can't handle anon.'s comment- wow!

what a cute idea summer! when we were growing up every christmas eve my dad would have all of us sit in a circle and he would give all of us a wrapped present...then he would read "twas the night before christmas" every time he read the word "THE" in the story we had to pass the present to the right..at the end of the story we got to open our present...i loved it!

I think I may start to leave more comments without my name. It's fun not having anyone know who the trashy stay at home mom that loves a little hanky panky in public is. hehe

I am loving these comments...I come on and check a couple times a day to see if here are any new stories. I want to start some of these traditions in my own family!

Summer,
I cannot think of anything too funny although when my boys were only three they sat on Santa's lap and asked for Bud Lightyear. Santa began to laugh with a Ho Ho Ho.

As for traditions each year we talk about the the wise men who brought the Christ child three gifts. In so doing the kids ask every year for three things from Mom and Dad and one thing from Santa. One thing they want, one thing they need, and one activity they want to do as a family(within the budget). Just a little way of bringing Christ into Christmas.

I seem to remember receivng a phone bill in January of 1983 that had $150 worth of toll charges to a number for "Talk to Santa". It seems as if a certain little girl named "Summer" found her way to the phone one night when her parents were out (and she was home with a babysitter )and repeatedly dialed the ph number to Santa which charged for each call!

Who hired that babysitter who wasn't watching very well?

That "anonymous" comment about that "certain" little girl named Summer is hilarious! You may have to send yourself a surprise!!

Okay here is one of my most cherished Christmas. Growing up... my parents were and still very thrifty and one year we got a knock at the door and there was this present that was left on our front step. We were all excited to open the present and when we did there were 100 1's and a plate of cookies! All of us kids were screaming and laughing screaming "Were rich!" Were rich!" Dad quickly picked up the dollars and said our present were the cookies...
