THIS IS WHAT I HAVE FELT LIKE LATELY...

The past week and a half I have been in and out of the Dentist office.  My teeth started to hurt and when I went in to see why... I found out that I needed THREE crowns and TWO fillings! Basically, my back molars all had so many silver fillings in them that they caused my teeth to crack! So I now have 3 temporary crowns on.  The other day, I started getting the worst toothache.  I went in AGAIN and one of them had a hole in it.  I am now on a steroid drug to prevent a possible ROOT CANAL!!!  I am sooo scared!  I have realized that I would rather be in labor than get dental work done!  At least something good comes out of labor in the end!!!  Here is why I REALLY hate the dentist:
1. Sometimes I don't get enough novacaine and can feel things.  Then I have to get another shot!
2. The sound of the drilling on my tooth makes me cringe... I have been bringing music to listen to but this does NOT take away from the next problem.
3. The smell of teeth being drilled to nubs... I HATE that smell!
4. When you rinse and spit and see TONS of blood.
I really hope that my kids get Bryan's teeth.  The guy does not take near the care of his teeth as I do and has NO cavities! I am pretty confident that I will have dentures by the time I am 40!

OH and did I mention that we don't have dental insurance? Bryan told me that this is my Christmas and Birthday for the next couple years!

YOu should find a dentist that uses laser instead of a drill... NO Shot NO Drill NO sound!! It is the best!

I am so sorry Summer. I am not a big fan of the dentist either. I never had a cavity until I had Hudson. I went in and had 8 cavities.

Patience, I still may have to get the root canal which I am nervous about. And Trace, I am totally going to look into that laser dentistry!!! It sounds right up my alley!

I too hate the dentist, for all those same reasons. And the bill might be just as painful! Oh and happy late b-day to Berkley!!

Oh Crap! That does not sound good. I am on board wit those reasons to hate the dentist. I have pretty good teeth and haven't had to do much to keep them (it's genetic). But, I waited like 5 yrs to see the dentist and had like 5 (my first ones, too) cavities. The drilling smelled so nasty...I couldn't stand it. I'm sorry, Summer!

2 words..."amen sista!" You sound just like me when it comes to dental stuff, I'd rather have a broken arm or be in labor than have a tooth ache or go to the dentist, if I only ate healthy food and no sugar I would still get cavities!

I feel like it is my duty to tell people the following..some dentists take discount cards, like an insurance card, but you just get a flat discount. I know it is too late for your crowns, but if your dentist works with a discount company you could save A LOT of money on upcoming work. The discount plans are super cheap to join, but you do have to sign up.
ps if you are willing to get nitrous during your work it relaxes you and most of the time covers up nasty smell. Good Luck :)

I am married to such a great dentist, but I must say... I HATE having work done on my teeth! The sound of the drill makes me want to scratch my eyes out. I am so lucky that I only get one cavity with each pregnancy and I have never needed crowns or root canals or anything, BUT I totally feel your pain. Ugh.

I'm right there with you! I have what they call soft teeth, which basically means that no matter what I do, i will get cavities and breaks and crowns forever!!!! I have like six crowns and have had 4 root canals, including one last month! I'm sorry that you had to go through it, it's the worst!! You are tough!!

Bleeech. So not fun. And I hear ya on the genes---why is it that some people just have rotten dental luck?

Rott canals are not that bad - if you go to a specialist...and you NEED TO GET NITROUS OXIDE - wow - that will make you relax...and you will have no cares in the world...you should have called me and gotten a copy of your x-rays to me before you jumped head 1st into all of this work. call me.

Dental work is expensive. Do you remember how much work I got done in Cali?? I was in the dentist chair every week with at least 5 root canals, crowns, even an implant, and I have veneers. My mouth is worth a small fortune. I hate the dentist too but I'm used to it now. It's the worst to go when you are newly pregnant.

Yeah yeah ... I thought I had great teeth too! I never even had to get braces and then right after grant I all of the sudden have ... yes count them !!!9!!! cavities! Luckily they were surface cavities but are you kidding me? I was shocked. Babies kill the teeth.
